Create Automation
To create an automation, go to the menu item Emails > Automations. Then click on the button New Automation.
Name
Give your automation a name. The name is only visible to you and helps you organize your messages.
Trigger
Specify who should receive the messages of this automation respectively which trigger sets them off.
The following options are available:
- When someone subscribes to my mailing list (without buying anything)
- When someone buys any product
- When someone buys one of the following products: (please select)
Note: If subscribers trigger the same automation multiple times based on the selected criteria, the corresponding emails will be sent only once.
Exit
To specify your target group even more precisely, you can use the exit criteria to remove recipients from the automation when they purchase a specific product. Tick the box next to the desired product or products.
Once you have selected the name, trigger and, if necessary, an exit criteria, you can create the automation. To do this, click on Create.
Create Emails for an Automation
The settings you have just configured set the basic framework that defines the target group for your automation. Next, you can add individual emails that will be sent automatically to this target group at specific times.
To do this, click on the Add email button.
Name
Give your email a name. The name is only visible to you and helps you organize your messages.
Schedule
Determine when this email should be sent. For example, immediately after the trigger criteria has been met, or x days later, as well as at a specific time.
Everything you enter here will be visible to the recipients of your message. Specify the subject of your email and write the actual email text.
The text field allows the use of the following formatting:
- normal text
- bold
- italic
- underlined
- strike-through
- quotes
- heading 1
- heading 2
- heading 3
- unordered list
- ordered list
You can also assign a font color or background color to your text. In addition, you have the option of embedding links and images in your emails.
Email personalization
To personalize your email, you can also insert placeholders to display your customers' email addresses, full names or first names.
Note: Since emails are displayed differently on almost every device and in every software, only certain text formatting options are currently permitted. Before emails are sent, incorrect formatting, such as that caused by copying and pasting, is automatically removed.
Once your email is ready, you can save it with a single click, discard it if you no longer need it, send a test email to yourself, or save and activate it.
We use the email address of your Tentary account to deliver the test messages. The test message will look exactly the same as the one your subscribers will receive. Only the sender will differ in the final email (details below).
Activate Email Automation
Important: To ensure that your automations are actually sent, it is necessary for both the automation itself and the desired emails (belonging to the automation) to be activated.
Once your automations are active, they will be automatically sent to email subscribers at the chosen times who meet the respective criteria.
Example
In the image below, you can see an example where an automation and 2 emails are activated. In this example, every buyer receives a Welcome Email shortly after their purchase. On the seventh day after the purchase, each buyer also receives an email at 4 p.m. UTC with the subject line Did you know? Reminder.
Email sender
The emails are sent with the following sender details:
From: Your display name <noreply@b.tentary.com>
Reply to: Your email address for customer enquiries
You can edit these details in the settings under Billing settings and Address.
Frequently asked questions
Can automations also be sent for past purchases?
Automations are currently not applied retrospectively. This means that they will only be sent for all future purchases or other actions from the moment an automation is activated.
Under certain circumstances, do customers receive automations multiple times?
If the criteria for an automation were to cause subscribers to trigger the same automation multiple times, the corresponding emails would be sent only once, so that no one receives the same message twice.
