In comparison to a one-off payment, a subscription results in a recurring payment. The frequency of this payment depends on the payment interval.

Create a subscription
To create a subscription, go to the product overview. When you create or edit a product, you can select the option Subscription in the Price section. Apart from the direct link, you can sell any product type in form of a subscription.
If you have selected the Subscription option, you can set the price underneath. Enter the chosen amount of the recurring payment. On the right, you can set the payment interval. There are various possibilities here (monthly, every 2nd month, quarterly, semi-annually and annually).
If you want to offer your customers an introductory price for their first payment, you can check the box next to Enable introductory price and enter the reduced price below. When the subscription is started, this price will be charged, and it will be pointed out that the regular price will apply from the second payment onwards.
Note: The introductory price must be at least 1€. A lower price will be rounded up to 1€.
Directly below there is a checkbox to specify whether you accept SEPA payments and, if this is the case, a second checkbox will appear and you can decide whether you want the product to be delivered immediately after purchase or by default after reception of payment.
Payment options for subscriptions
For a subscription, there are fewer payment options than usual. Your customers can currently pay by credit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay and, if activated, SEPA. Unfortunately, payment via PayPal is currently not possible. You can find more information on this in Frequently asked questions and answers.
Cancelling a subscription
A subscription can be canceled at any time until the end of a payment interval. Your customers retain access to your product up to and including the last day of their subscription.
There are 3 different ways to cancel a subscription:
- As a seller, you can cancel the subscription in your dashboard via the menu item Sales.
- Your customers can click on the Cancel subscription link at the bottom in the footer both in your shop and on the product's sales page. Please note, however, that this option must be activated in your shop builder in the tab Other.
- Your customers can open the link to the product in the purchase confirmation of the subscription. A cancellation link is also displayed in the product itself when opening it.
Frequently asked questions
Why can’t a subscription be paid via PayPal?
Currently, automatic subscription payments via PayPal are unfortunately not possible, as the technical implementation in combination with our platform would involve a high level of manual effort for both us and you as a seller. We’ve therefore decided not to support this feature for now.
Note: See below for information on one-time PayPal payments for overdue subscription payments.
What happens if a subscription payment fails?
Access to the product is automatically paused, and the buyer receives an email with a payment request and a link to update their payment method.
A failed subscription payment can also be settled by the customer via a one-time PayPal payment. However, this only applies to the current outstanding charge, as PayPal is not available as an automatic payment option for subscriptions.
The seller will be notified by email about any failed subscription payments. Over the following 14 days, several additional charge attempts will be made using the saved payment method.
How do my customers know when their subscription will renew and be charged?
Your customers are notified in advance. They automatically receive an email 7 days before the renewal of their subscription, informing them of the upcoming charge.
